Don’t miss out on winter activities in Northern Nevada. While snowmobiling may not be the first thing to come to mind when planning a trip to Nevada, it must surprise you to know that Elko was voted as one of the top 10 snowmobile adventures by Super Trax International!
Lamoille Canyon in the Ruby Mountain range and Elko’s access to National Forests provides wonderful terrain and trails for snowmobiling. Trails aren’t groomed as we ride on forest service roads and public lands. There is a speed limit of 15 mph in high traffic areas to be aware of.
Popular snowy areas to check out include the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest just north of Elko, and the Ruby Mountains that are south of Elko. The Ruby Mountains offer sledding at altitudes of 6,500 ft. up to 10,000 with Ruby Lake getting blanketed by about four feet of snow each year. At 25 miles from Elko, the Lamoille Canyon Scenic Byway offers a glacial canyon to ride with amazing scenery. About 65 miles from Elko is the Wild Horse Reservoir with plenty of open field and miles of open are to ride.
Just under an hour away from the casino is Jack Creek and Independence Pass at 4,000 ft. in elevation with differing terrain for all skill levels. Or head over to North Fork, Charleston, and Jarbigde to ride the 30 ft. of snow covering this expanse of wilderness.
